Every Nintendo 64 has one of these inside but the shape is different for US consoles and JAPANESE consoles. This is how Nintendo region locked games for the Nintendo 64. This game tray has a custom design that fits both regions. This allows you to play both U.S. and Japanese games on a US console and Japanese and US games on a Japanese console.
To install:
1) unscrew 6 screws on bottom of n64
2) pull apart the top and bottom halves of the system (should come apart with no force)
3) find the game tray already installed on your system, this is located on the top half part of the Nintendo. It is directly under the spot a game cartridge goes in.
4) remove 2 screws from the side of the tray and replace with new game tray from this listing.
5) repeat above steps in reverse order to reassemble.
